The South African Embassy to Belgium and the EU is delighted to announce that South Africa will preside over the G20 from November 2024 to December 2025. This significant period will conclude with a handover to the USA in 2026.
STROPCIM was very pleased to attend this event to actively working to enhance procurement and value chain frameworks for Africa and support the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
On December 18, 2024, the Brussels-Africa Hub, in collaboration with the South African Embassy in Brussels, organized an exclusive walking dinner in Brussels. During this event, H.E. Maud Vuyelwa Dlomo, South Africa’s Deputy Director-General for the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, provided an exclusive insight into South Africa’s G20 Presidency agenda. This agenda aligns with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and addresses critical issues such as climate change, energy, food security, and debt challenges impacting Africa and the Global South. It also includes advancing infrastructure development and global governance reform.
As the first African nation to preside over the G20, South Africa is committed to fostering a more inclusive and sustainable global economy. Our presidency will focus on:
- Sustainable Growth: Creating opportunities for low-income countries to integrate into the global economy.
- African Union Agenda 2063: Supporting the long-term vision for Africa’s development.
- Energy Transition: Leading efforts to transition to sustainable energy sources, ensuring no vulnerable country is left behind.
- Global Health and Security: Strengthening global health systems and improving access to essential medicines for low and middle-income countries.
- Debt Management: Addressing the debt challenges faced by African countries and prioritizing effective debt management strategies.
- Cost of Capital: Reducing the cost of capital for developing countries and advocating for the reform of international financial systems.
- Inclusive G20: Promoting a more inclusive G20 that better represents the interests of Africa and the Global South.
South Africa’s G20 presidency is a pivotal opportunity to drive meaningful change and ensure that no one is left behind. Join us in supporting this transformative agenda.
